We talk about a couple of critical topics: managing intersections within an academic center that spans from basic & translational research to clinical care – with all the pressures & diverging interests that come into play despite a strong common purpose, which is advancing and delivering the best care possible for patients. We also talk about the role of the #doctor in any initiative that aims at improving outcomes for #patients.

✔ For anyone involved in #valuebasedhealthcare #qualitymanagement #outcomesmeasurement we know how tough it is for physicians to trust and get into the spotlight, with their work being exposed and judged publicly. Being measured & benchmarked to others is really hard to absorb and is risky.

Yet, you can’t manage nor improve what you don’t measure.

To do it skillfully, this requires strong leadership, institutional support and a lot of patience so that a new culture of shared responsibility can emerge and the glitch into a disastrous blame culture can be avoided, that many – rightly so – fear if #vbhc isn’t implemented thoughtfully.
